A running spatter pattern can be determined through the size of the spines on the blood droplet. The two photos displayed on the left are running because the spines are more elongated, whereas on the right, the two photos displayed are depicted as walking due to the smaller spines. Spatter pattern can be used to determine the speed and direction. The suspect is running the opposite way in which the spines come out. The longer the spines, the faster the person was running.
